Pathoscreen media is for the detection of fecal sulfide-producing bacteria like Salmonella, Citrobacter, Proteus, Edwardsiella and Klebsiella (some spp.) in drinking water, surface water and recreational water using the Most Probable Number Method (MPN) Hach Method 10032. The presence of these bacteria can indicate fecal contamination, which can lead to foodborne or waterborne illnesses. E. coli does not interfere with the Pathoscreen test, making it a suitable alternative for monitoring drinking water systems in developing tropical countries, remote field locations, and disaster or emergency situations. A color change from yellow to black and/or black precipitate formation, the result is positive for hydrogen sulfide producing bacteria.

  • Pathoscreen is used to detect waterborne pathogens associated with fecal contamination of water sources.
  • Simple method eliminates need for an incubator in tropical and semi-tropical climates.
  • Pillowed media eliminates the need for refrigeration.
